Johannesburg Tours

Known locally as Egoli (meaning ‘Place of Gold), Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa, and the most advanced city in Africa. The city was founded in 1886 with the discovery of gold and areas like Newtown, Constitution Hill and Soweto remind visitors of South Africa’s turbulent past.

The city has something for everybody and one does not need to travel far to find something to your liking. From magnificent restaurants and shopping centres to great golf courses and fantastic local music, Jozi has it all.

Johannesburg also boasts various cultural attractions including the Apartheid Museum and the Hector Pieterson Museum which honours the youth-led revolution that began on 16 June 1976, and led directly to the ending of racial discrimination.

The city is also within easy driving distance of the Cradle of Humankind, home to one of the world’s most important paleontological finds and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also within easy driving distance are the quaint towns of Parys on the Vaal River, and the diamond mining town of Cullinan. For those looking to move out of the urban setting, the Krugersdorp Game Reserve to the west of Johannesburg is the perfect chance to do some fine game viewing.
